With the summer holidays on the horizon for university students around the UK, thoughts turn not only to summer plans, but also to plans for the next academic year. Whether September will be the first year for a uni student, or you have a student child who is part way through their time at university, the chances are, moving house is going to be on the horizon in the coming months! Here is how to help them get organised and ensure that it goes smoothly…

Make sure that they have all they need – Make a list of the things that they need for the start of the new academic year. The summer holidays is a great time to start planning this as you have plenty of time, and because there are many students preparing for the start of term, the shops often have offers on with this in mind, so it pays to shop around for those bargains.

Check what will be provided in the accommodation and make a list of all the essentials that they will need to provide themselves. As well as larger items like bedding, remember smaller things like kitchen utensils and crockery.

Pack Smart – Once they have all the things that they will need, it is time to get it packed up. Making sure that it is packed for ease of transport is important, as well as ensuring that all of the boxes are packed neatly and are clearly labelled to make unpacking easier at the other end. It is also wise to ensure that anything that is breakable is wrapped to protect it whilst it is in transit.

You also need to consider how they will get there with all of that stuff – see if you are able to take them or any willing family members are happy to help out, if not look into removals companies.

Have a Place to Store Things When they are not in the Accommodation – Some types of student accommodation is used for other things once the summer holidays start up, so have a plan for the storage of all the stuff if this is the case! Look for a local self storage unit like this self storage Swindon based company https://www.anchorselfstorage.co.uk/self-storage/swindon that will store the items safely until they are needed again.
