Preparing for your Audiology appointment in Cheltenham.
A little preparation before your appointment will enable the audiologist to get straight on to dealing with your hearing problems.
Your Medication List
Make a list of all the current medicines you are taking, including any over-the-counter products. Some medicines can affect your hearing or balance, and your audiologist needs to know about all the medicines you are taking, not just the prescribed ones.
Previous Hearing Test Results
If you have had a previous hearing test, please bring the results with you. This can be in the form of an audiogram and will allow us to compare your previous results with your current hearing. If you are unable to find your previous results, it is possible that your GP surgery may have a copy.
A Description of Your Difficulties
Finally think about the situations when you find it most difficult to hear – for example situations could be: in a noisy restaurant, on the phone, watching TV at normal volume, when following a single voice in a group situation. Write down these examples before your appointment. As with preparation for any health appointment, NHS guidance on how to prepare information before a health appointment will apply.
Your Noise Exposure History
Any information about your past exposure to noise whether from work, hobbies or past events – for example if you used to work in a factory, go to live music events or use power tools.
Referral or Insurance Paperwork
Any GP referral letter and your insurance documents.

Someone to Come With You
A companion or relative for support. Someone to go with you is very useful, as they can remind you of important details from your appointment and also describe to the audiologist how hearing loss affects them.
Arriving prepared for your appointment will ensure that the time is spent on your hearing and not gathering the information that you could have prepared in advance.
