How to become a Close protection officer

Close protection officers protect individuals or groups from the risk of violence, kidnapping and other dangerous situations.

You can get into this career by attending a college course or applying directly to a security firm.

You can do a course of study, which will teach you some of the skills and knowledge you need in this job. Relevant courses will award a Level 3 Certificate which is often needed to work as a Close Protection Operative.

You can apply directly for an organization to work as a bodyguard or go through a recruitment agency specializing in security work. You will need a license for Close Protection issued by the Security Industry Authority.

Many people enter this career after working in the police or armed forces.
